How long will it take to find a new home for my dog?

BGSR cannot guarantee a time frame for finding a home for a dog.  Factors that effect placement are the age of the dog, the health of the dog, the behavior of the dog, level of socialization with people and other animals, size, gender, color, time of year, etc. 

What are BGSR's Adoption procedures?

BGSR requires that any potential adopter complete an Adoption Application prior to meeting any dog that is available for adoption.  The applicant's references (personal and veterinary) are contacted and interviewed about the applicant's experience with current or previous animals.  Once the application is processed and approved, BGSR arranges for a home visit to ensure the applicant's home environment is safe and suitable for a GSD.  BGSR then schedules meet n' greets between the applicant and the dog.  All household members are required to attend the first meet n' greet.  Additionally, any other dogs in the applicant's household must meet the new dog as well.  BGSR requires a minimum of a 24-hour period after the first meet n' greet before a second meet n' greet is scheduled.BGSR does not adopt on a first come, first serve basis, rather we attempt to find the best fit for the dog's needs.BGSR does not adopt to applicants that keep their pets (or intend to keep their pet) housed in outdoor kennels or chained outdoors. 

Do I have any say-so in the placement of my dog?

What happens if a new home is found and the Adoption does not work out?

BGSR makes a commitment to the GSD's we place.  If a placement fails for reasons other than a bite incident or terminal medical condition, BGSR will make every effort to find another home for the dog.

Will I be able to have contact with the new owners?

No.  The adopting parties and surrendering parties personal information is kept confidential.

What if I change my mind about re-homing my dog?You must notify BGSR immediately if you have decided to keep your dog.  Once BGSR is notified, the dog will be removed from any web site where the dog is posted.  You will not receive a refund for the Owner Surrender fee.
