The Adoption Process

BGSR's goal with each and every dog we place is to find the right home.  Our placement decisions are based on the individual needs of the dog.  For that reason, we do not adopt on a first come, first serve basis.
The first step to a successful adoption is to complete the Adoption Application.   Once the application has been processed and approved, the applicant is notified that we are prepared to move on to the next step, the Home Check.
A Home Check is conducted at the applicant's home to ensure that the dog will be living in a safe and secure environment.  If improvements are necessary, the applicant will be offered recommendations for improvement (for example, a weakness in fencing or a door that would be easily escaped).
After the Home Check, we move on to the Meet n' Greets. BGSR does require two Meet n' Greets with a minimum of 24 hours between meetings to allow the applicant's to think about the adoption decision. All full time household members are required to attend at least one of the Meet n' Greets.

The first Meet n' Greet typically takes place at a neutral location.  The applicant's must bring any dogs living in their home to the first meeting in order to determine if the dogs will be compatible.

The second Meet n' Greet typically is done at the applicant's home particularly when the applicant has other dogs or other companion animals.  If both Meet n' Greets go well and the applicant wants to adopt the dog, the adoption if finalized at that time.
Out of state adoptions are considered on a case-by-case basis.  Contact BGSR to determine if your situation will allow for a long distance adoption.
